Pedestrian crossings traversing or alongside tramway tracks and pedestrian behaviour

The development of tramways has made urban space more complex by increasing the types of lanes to be crossed, introducing absolute priority at intersections, etc.
What impact does this increase in complexity have on pedestrians in terms of accidents and behaviour? This issue has not been studied much in France, despite the fact that results from other countries show its importance.
STRMTG therefore tasked CETE Méditerranée with carrying out a study on pedestrian crossings traversing tramway tracks in 2011, and continued analysis in 2013 on crossings alongside tracks, focusing on certain aspects highlighted by the first study (role of refuges, etc.) and underlying the special features of crossings alongside tramway tracks.
