Studies on the behaviour of ropeway installation users

Study on the human factors involved in accidents on ropeway installations
Analysis of the annual accident reports drawn up on the basis of operator declarations regularly yields the same observation - there are few serious accidents on ropeway installations, but the number remains fairly consistent.

When identifying the causes (equipment, third parties, users, etc.), most are attributed to user behaviour in various forms (clumsiness, lack of understanding of rules, failure to comply with rules, carelessness, etc.).
Until now, the search for solutions to improve the situation has tended to focus on technological or organisational measures, without any noticeable improvement of accident rates.

The decision was made to bring users centre stage in order to improve understanding of how they view of this mode of transport, the information they receive and the risks involved.

The report entitled “Study on the human factors involved in accidents on ropeway installations” summarises the results of the study commissioned by STRMTG from LIGERON Sonovision. The aim of this study is to improve knowledge of the entire sector with regard to the human factors at play in ropeway installation accidents, and to identify possible solutions to better take these factors into account.

STRMTG involved its professional partners (operators, manufacturers) and people involved in the use of ropeway installations (ski instructors) in directing the study.
