Study on high-speed mountain resort conveyor belts

As mountain resort conveyor belts increase in length, manufacturers have applied for exemptions from the regulations in force, so that they can operate at speeds over 0.7m/s and provide users with shorter transit times.

STRMTG therefore launched a study to analyse the acceptable safety conditions for these high-speed conveyor belts (1.2 m/s) by carrying out tests on instrumented crash test dummies.

The results of this study, which was which was conducted by IFSTTAR (the French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development and Networks), allow acceptance of conveyor belts operating at high speeds (1.2 m/s).

The design rules for high-speed mountain resort conveyor belts (Vmax=1.2m/s) have now been incorporated into French regulations:

  • Order of 17 January 2017 and Order of 16 June 2017 amending the Order of 29 September 2010 on the design, construction, modification, operation and maintenance of the mountain resort conveyor belts mentioned in Article L. 342-17-1 of the French Tourism Code
