Study on reference fires in urban guided transport tunnels

From February 2016 to August 2018, the DGITM and DGSCGC tasked STRMTG, in partnership with CETU and IFSTTAR, with leading a study on reference fires in tunnels on the rolling stock of urban guided transport systems complying with the Technical Specifications of 22 November 2005 and the smoke fire standard applicable to rolling stock, EN 45 545.
This study confirmed the control of system-related fire sources and the absence of fire propagation. Fires last a maximum of 45 minutes before self-extinguishing. In the event of a fire, temperature and CO levels are not lethal, and are rarely an issue when it comes to evacuating users. Specific requirements may be necessary depending on the nature of the project.
The study also confirmed the relevance of current regulatory and normative standards, excluding sources outside the system.
