Technical guide for special-purpose machines

The technical guide for special-purpose machines sets out the requirements for all special-purpose machines intended for use on ropeway installations or conveyor belts.

The regulations applicable to ropeway installations and mountain resort conveyor belts, and in particular the General Police Regulations and the Police Regulations specific to each installation, generally provide for access to the installations by users “on foot or equipped with alpine skis, cross-country skis, monoskis, and snowboards”.

Any other machines used by users are considered “special-purpose machines”, and these regulations require that all special equipment be suitable for use on the installation. This suitability is assessed through a special-purpose machine opinion (AVES) issued by STRMTG, or directly by the operator of the ropeway installation or conveyor belt in question.

The technical guide for special-purpose machines sets out the requirements for all special-purpose machines intended for use on ropeway installations or conveyor belts in order to serve as a basis for the assessment of suitability mentioned above.
It does not take into account aspects relating to the downhill track.
Even if a special-purpose machine complies with all the requirements of this document, the operator may prohibit or restrict its access to an installation in view of its specific characteristics and environment. In the case of machines for disabled users, this ban or restriction must be clearly justified on safety grounds.
