ITTAB 2025: An Edition Highlighted by International Reach and Technical Exchanges

The 73rd edition of the ITTAB (International Meeting of Technical Authorities for Cableways) was held last week in Toulouse, organized by the STRMTG.
The event brought together 20 international delegations, representing control authorities from around the world, to address key issues related to safety, innovation, and the operation of cable transport systems.

A varied program

As in previous editions, ITTAB 2025 combined technical sessions with site visits.
Participants had the opportunity to discover:

  • the Pic du Midi cable car, in a high-mountain environment,
  • one of the flagships of the French aerospace industry, Airbus,
  • and an innovative urban cable transport system, the Téléo in Toulouse.

Key moments of exchange

During the plenary sessions, discussions focused on major themes such as:
  • the safety of aerial systems and urban cableways,
  • technological innovations and operational optimization,
  • harmonization of regulatory practices between countries,
  • the impact of environmental conditions on installations in diverse contexts.
These exchanges fostered rich interaction among international authorities, reinforcing the collaborative dimension of the congress.

Recognition of French expertise

The choice of Toulouse was no coincidence: the city hosts several emblematic installations, including the Téléo urban cable car built by POMA.

This project, the first urban 3S cable car in France, generated strong interest. The 3S system (with two carrying cables and one hauling cable) offers:
  • greater cabin stability with reduced vibrations,
  • limited noise impact,
  • a reduced number of pylons (5 instead of 20 for a monocable system),
  • overflight heights of up to 70 meters,
  • improved landscape integration and lower environmental impact,
  • and the ability to adjust frequency and speed in real time.

The strong international participation underlines the role of the STRMTG in promoting both safety and French expertise in the field of cable transport.

Thanks & outlook

The STRMTG extends its warm thanks to all speakers, international delegations, operators and companies who shared their expertise. Special thanks also go to the local teams and partners for their commitment to the organization.

The discussions and feedback from this edition will feed into our future work, enabling us to continue strengthening safety, sustainability and innovation in cable transport.
