RM-SGS1 and RM-SGS2 application guides were updated in July 2024.

The Safety Management System (SMS) is a tool for ropeway installation and conveyor belt operators in mountain resorts, designed to enhance user safety. It organises and structures all the company’s resources, rules, procedures and methods to ensure safety.

RM-SGS1 application guide details the content of the SMS for ropeway installation and conveyor belt operators in mountain areas.
RM-SGS2 application guide explains how to implement the periodic inspection of safety management systems provided for in article R. 342-12-2 of the French Tourism Code.

Versions 2 and 3 of these guides are now available.

The guides will take effect on 1 December 2024.

This revision follows an assessment of the system after more than five years’ experience, and was carried out in consultation with representatives of the professionals (DSF, SNMSF, SIMS, SNTF and SCPRM) from mid-2023 to mid-2024.

The main changes are as follows :

  • generalisation of the three-year inspection cycle, following the positive feedback from professionals on that scheme;
  • positioning the auditor on the operator’s response to findings, and updating CAIRN application to take account of this new feature;
  • clarification of the documents required to respond to safety issues, with the creation of three document categories: documents required by regulations, documents proposed to meet safety requirements, and suggested documents;
  • creation of an article 4.4 to RM-SGS1 guide regarding maintenance.
