PULSED MOVEMENT AERIAL ROPEWAY - Discontinuous movement unidirectional aerial ropeway

Discontinuous movement unidirectional ropeways are available using both monocable and bicable technologies.

The operating principle is based on modulating the speed of vehicles in the station and on the line, as with detachable chairlifts or gondola lifts, to ensure comfortable passenger loading.

The difference lies in the way speed is modulated. With this concept, just like the chairs on fixed-grip chairlifts, the vehicles are attached to the rope with fixed grips, so the rope has to be slowed down to go through the station.
In general, the installation has 4 vehicles (or groups of vehicles) equally spaced so that two vehicles enter opposite stations at the same time, with the other two vehicles roughly in the middle of the line.

These systems are obviously less expensive than detachable installations, but their performance cannot be compared, since when the vehicles pass through the station, the vehicles on the line are also slowed down, which considerably limits transport capacity.

In general, these installations rarely exceed 1000 people per hour. Costs vary widely. There are not many of these installations and they are reserved for very specific uses.
