Ski tows

Ski tows are devices powered by a mobile tow rope, enabling skiers to be towed along a track on the ground.

There are three types of ski tows:

Ski tow with rod

This is a French speciality where the skier is pulled by an extendable device called a rod or bar. The attachment is either detachable or fixed with a clamp tightened on the rope.

Ski-tow with springboxes

The device is attached to the rope with a fixed clamp. The skier is towed by a line attached to a box in which a cord rolls up when not being used.

Low-level ski tow

With this type of device, the cable is located at a height of around 1m, and the skier is either pulled by a short handle attached to the cable, or the cable is replaced by a rope that the skier grabs with one hand in order to be pulled along.
