What is a notified body?
A notified body is an organisation designated by an EU Member State to assess the conformity of certain products before they are placed on the market.
It is therefore responsible for assessing whether a product meets certain requirements.
These bodies are authorised to carry out tasks related to conformity assessment procedures defined in the applicable legislation when third party intervention is required.
Member States notify the Commission and the other Member States of the bodies authorised to carry out conformity assessment work.
Manufacturers are free to choose the notified body that will assess their products.
The lists of notified bodies can be consulted on the European Commission website.
Manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that their products comply with all applicable directives/regulations in order to be placed on the EU market.
